Following the tenets of positive psychology, many researchers have explored the realm of teachers' emotions in the past decades. However, the number of studies observing teachers' psycho-emotional factors from a cross-cultural lens has been negligible. To fill this gap, This study examined the association among apprehension, resilience, organizational mattering, and psychological well-being of 411 Indonesian and 285 Iranian English language teachers. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analyses of the data obtained from four questionnaires indicated that while the language teachers' apprehension was weakly correlated with the other factors, the other variables were strongly correlated. Furthermore, the results showed that resilience and organizational mattering were strong predictors of teachers' overall well-being. The cross-cultural comparison of the results revealed that the Indonesian teachers enjoyed more resilience and seemed to cope better with challenging and apprehensive situations. Identifying and regulating negative emotions, like apprehension, can potentially pave the way for policymakers and teacher educators to empower teachers to survive and thrive in the stressful conditions of their profession.

The proposed research aimed to examine abusive leadership and workplace ostracism as predictors of employee silence among school teachers in Sargodha, Pakistan. Studies further tend to examine the moderating role of power distance. Purposive sampling was employed to acquire the data. The research variables were quantified using the Abusive Supervision Scale (Mitchell & Ambrose, 2007), Workplace Exclusion Scale (Hitlan & Noel, 2009), Silence Scale (Van Dyne et al., 2003) and Power Distance Scale (Dorfman & Howell, 1988). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between abusive leadership, workplace ostracism, employee silence, and power distance. Results showed that abusive leadership, ostracism, silence, and power distance have a positive relationship with each other. The findings of linear regression revealed that abusive leadership, ostracism and power distance positively predicted employee silence. Moderation analysis revealed that power distance significantly moderated the relationship of abusive leadership and workplace ostracism with employee silence. The proposed research provides some recommendations and conclusions for future researchers who may be interested in examining the abuse that teachers experience in a high-power-distance culture that compels them to act silently.

This phenomenological study seeks to explore the experiences of Vietnamese English-major graduates as they transition into out-of-expertise job roles in a globalized work environment. Drawing from a qualitative dataset gathered from 67 participants through semi-structured interviews, the research aimed to understand the perceived benefits, challenges, and emotional trajectories associated with such transitions. Key findings indicate that the majority of participants perceived their English proficiency as a significant advantage in diverse job markets. However, they also highlighted cultural challenges when adapting to global work settings, emphasizing the need to understand nuanced cultural norms beyond language proficiency. A recurrent theme was the perceived gap between the rich theoretical knowledge acquired during their academic tenure and its practical applicability in real-world job scenarios. Interestingly, participants also illuminated the unexpected interdisciplinary benefits of their English-major background, suggesting that their studies equipped them with valuable critical thinking and analytical skills. Issues of professional identity emerged strongly, with many participants expressing challenges in aligning their academic label with diverse job roles. Furthermore, the study highlights the profound emotional journey, from initial doubts to building resilience, as a significant aspect of these professional transitions.

This research explores the crucial role of leadership transitions in educational institutions, particularly at Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc. (ICCBI). Recognizing the profound impact of leadership practices on organizational effectiveness, this study addresses nuanced aspects of employee engagement during transitions. Using qualitative case study design involving face-to-face interviews, common themes emerge regarding the transition of leadership, such as inclusive decision-making, resistance to new policies, unclear communication, continuity in vision, mission, and commitment, and transparency. The findings underscore the substantial influence of leadership transitions on the institution's dynamics, shaping its mission, vision, and commitment to both students and employees. Proactively addressing challenges is emphasized as crucial for maintaining a positive work environment and enhancing organizational effectiveness. The study further recommends a strategic focus on transforming challenges into opportunities, prioritizing employee engagement, and implementing the outlined strategies to foster a healthy work-life relationship within Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc.

This study explores the employee retention strategies implemented by administrators in educational institutions, focusing on Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc. The qualitative case study involved 10 participants, including administrators and employees selected based on stable tenure and appropriate qualifications. Through face-to-face interviews, key determinants influencing retention, such as teacher satisfaction, job contentment, professional growth, and loyalty, were identified. Recognition and incentives emerged as the primary retention strategy, significantly influencing employee satisfaction and fostering a sense of belonging. The study concludes that these strategies are effective, contributing to the retention of skilled professionals. Recommendations emphasize the importance of recognizing and providing incentives as core strategies for administrators in educational settings, recognizing their role in creating a positive work environment and promoting sustained employee commitment. The findings at ICCBI underscore the observed effectiveness of these strategies.

This study explores the complexities of qualitative fieldwork and unpacks the fieldwork dynamics drawing on critical reflections based on the experiences of interviewing primary level teachers in exploring their identities. I argue that qualitative fieldwork is not a one-shot, linear activity but a negotiated and relational task requiring a flexible and context-specific plan. This study identifies challenges associated with the fieldwork relating to establishing and sustaining a good relationship and reciprocity between the researcher and the participants, unequal power dynamics between the researcher and the participants, participants' familiarity with and habitual response to the survey questionnaires, narrow understanding of confidentiality and anonymity as ethical considerations, unmatched gender between the researcher and the participants, and through and detailed capture of micro field jottings and writing the fieldnotes. I suggest initiating fieldwork with sufficient informal conversation and establishing a rapport to gain the participants' trust, positioning oneself as an insider to acquire valuable and meaningful data.

Institutional politics and emerging changes to the professoriate have potentially positioned tenure-track faculty within an academic labor system that assumes academic training and expertise guides their progression. This qualitative narrative study of 12 higher education and student affairs (HESA) pre-tenure faculty explored their navigation of tenure experiences at their institutions. Participants shared personal and professional challenges related to tenure in which they were challenged to negotiate academic and student affairs professional identities. Personal challenges included strained personal lives and relationships with feelings of isolation or loneliness. These findings offer insight into HESA pre-tenure faculty experiences as an avenue to better support this unique population. Study implications center equitable practices and community building.

Teacher career plateaus hinder the high-quality development of teaching staff. Based on a nationwide questionnaire survey on Chinese kindergarten teachers' career plateaus, this study developed a kindergarten teacher career plateauing structural model. The research findings indicate that overall career plateauing among Chinese kindergarten teachers is at a moderate level. The kindergarten teacher career plateauing model is best represented by the second-order single-factor/first-order three-factor structure, which consists of three dimensions: professional development, hierarchical, and emotional plateauing. Among these dimensions, emotional plateauing is most intensively perceived by teachers. Telltale signs of kindergarten teacher career plateauing range from stagnation of professional progress to losses of senses of meaning in work, constrained promotion of professional titles, slim chances of promotion to higher positions, fading positive emotional engagement, and increased negative workplace emotions. Implications of the study for building a professionalized preschool teaching force include emphases on teachers' long-range career planning and their agency in career advancement. This study explores the interaction of four major factors at the workplace, namely, perceived organizational support, burnout, thriving at work and innovative work behavior, specifically in the setting of the private high schools of Karachi. The study looks at why some instructors in the same organization succeed under trying circumstances such as those engendered by the Covid 19 situation, while others struggle and eventually succumb to burnout. Data consists of responses of 196 teachers, collected through a questionnaire on Likert scale and SPSS is used for analysis. Results show that perceived organizational support has a positive impact on innovative work behavior, whereas burnout is negatively impacts teachers. It has been demonstrated that thriving at work is a powerful mediator.

Connecting teachers' professional well-being and managerialism, this study explored how teachers experience their professional well-being in navigating challenging working conditions. Supported by the well-being theory, document analyses were carried out and open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers at Chinese HEIs. The findings portray a landscape of tensions, conflicts, and challenges, where teachers' professional well-being is dramatically confronted and even systematically overlooked. In a managerial culture in favor of performance and competence, teachers' engagement, their perception towards the meaning of education, and their understanding of self-actualization were consistently informed, controlled, and rewarded against a reducible list of skills and outcomes. In this way, the meaning of being a teacher is narrowly focused but broadly standardized. The findings deepen understandings of teachers' professional well-being, enable more critical examinations of managerialism in higher education, and allow promotion of teachers' professional well-being for sustainable development.

Academic labor has expanded beyond the walls of academic institutions. Academics are expected to communicate with students online, use digital tools to complete their work, and share their research with broad audiences--often through online spaces like social media. Academics also face technology-facilitated violence and abuse (TFVA) in these same spaces. When this happens, employers have a responsibility to protect and support workers. However, recent events have shown that universities are not always prepared to do so. We use data from a discourse analysis of harassment and discrimination policies and interviews with university managers (including Vice President Academics/Provost, Faculty Deans, and directors of human rights offices) to examine how prepared Canadian universities and colleges are to support academics targeted by TFVA. We found that institutions are unprepared in three ways: first, they focus on physical safety over non-contact harms; second, they envision perpetrators to be named, local, and part of the campus community; and third, the reporting process is cumbersome and outpaced by the speed and frequency with which TFVA occurs. We consider these findings in the context of work-overflow and context collapse to demonstrate how the institutional apparatus for maintaining a safe and respectful working environment has not expanded in kind with the extensification of contemporary academic labor.

Narcissism is a phenomenon that can have serious consequences for organizations and their employees. On the other hand, employees who show organizational citizenship behaviors, such as helping their colleagues, can help create a positive and productive work environment. In this study, it was aimed to determine teachers' perception levels of organizational narcissism and citizenship, the relationship between narcissism and citizenship, and the effect of narcissism on citizenship. The research was conducted on 400 teachers. Data were collected using the Organizational Narcissism Scale and Organizational Citizenship Scale. As a result of the research, it was determined that teachers' perceptions of organizational narcissism and organizational citizenship were at a moderate level. However, there are significant positive relationships between organizational narcissism and organizational citizenship. In addition, organizational narcissism was found to be a significant predictor of organizational citizenship. In the light of the results obtained from the research, suggestions for researchers and future research are given.

This research examined the factors that affect the decision of prospective classroom teachers to choose teaching as a profession and their preferences regarding work-life balance. A case study design, one of the qualitative research methods employed in this study, The participants consisted of 20 prospective classroom teachers who took the teaching practice course in the 2021-2022 academic year at a state university. A semi-structured interview form was used for data collection, and the data was analyzed through content analysis. Findings revealed that prospective classroom teachers' preference for the profession is influenced by their love for the profession, working conditions, the love and interest shown by their former teachers, and communication with children. Their preferences are also influenced by their discovery that they can teach children something, their desire to contribute to the development of future generations by serving people in the basic education stage, their families' supportive behaviors, and their experiences of the profession in their university years. In terms of their preferences for their work lives, most of the teacher candidates expressed a desire to become classroom teachers and work in this field, while it was found that some teacher candidates experienced dilemmas regarding their work lives due to studying or working in different fields. This research emphasizes the need to improve working conditions for teachers and develop teacher training programs that focus on teacher candidates' affective aspects.

In this article we connect critical librarianship and its practices of information literacy (IL) with working-class experiences of higher education (HE). Although the research literature and professional body of knowledge of critical information literacy (CIL), is one of the most theoretically-developed areas of wider critical librarianship (Critlib) movement, working-class knowledge and experiences remain underrepresented. One reason for this is that the values, behaviour and assumptions of library and HE workers are shaped by a HE system which inculcates middle-class values and cultural capitals within students, and stigmatises working-class students as lacking or in deficit. Hegemonic, or noncritical, IL proselytises middle-class values and assumptions about academic practices and skills development including the notion of an ideal student with behaviour and markers of identity which reflect those most privileged by wider society. In contrast CIL, framed as "the" socially-just practice of IL is theoretically well-placed to support working-class library workers in destabilising this alongside middle-class accomplices. Employing Yosso's (2005) concept of community and cultural wealth (CCW), we analyse how library workers can recognise working-class cultural wealth within the context of CIL and wider working practices. As such narrative accounts are lacking in the literature, we utilise collaborative autoethnography (CAE) (Chang et al., 2013) to consider and interpret our own experiences of libraries when we were university students ourselves, and more recently as HE workers of working-class heritage.

Native-speakerism is an ideology that endows those classified as native English-speaking teachers (NESTs) the owners of the English language, the ideal models of its use, and the pedagogical experts in language teaching. These endowments, in turn, intrinsically devalue those classified as non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs) (Holliday, 2006, 2017). In this study, a trioethnographic approach was adopted to investigate native-speakerism as it related to the lived experiences of two NESTs (Matt and Joachim) and one NNEST (Takaaki) in an EFL context of Japan. Counterintuitively, this exploration found that, in our Japanese context, native-speakerism had adverse effects on the academic lives and professional trajectories not for the NNEST, but rather for the two NESTs, linguistically, culturally, and institutionally speaking. Based on the findings, we explain and compare what we term "classical," "inversed," and "nuanced" native-speakerism, and introduce a new empowering concept--"trans-speakerism"--an ideological stance committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion for all language teachers, irrespective of their first languages or cultures. The article ends with a call for research that encompasses a variety of contexts and approaches on trans-speakerism in language education.

This study explored how past students who attended the Learning Support Zone (LSZ) in Maltese secondary schools perceived their attendance at the LSZ and its impact on their home and work environments. In-depth interviews were conducted with eleven adults who attended the LSZ when they were in secondary school. Thematic analysis was used to elicit a set of themes. The findings highlight the multiple struggles that students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) face. The narratives highlight the positive impact of the LSZ and its staff, but the families of these students were hardly involved. Social skills, independent living skills, and emotional literacy taught at the LSZ are believed to have helped these youths enhance their motivation and perceived self-worth and deal with adversities more effectively both at home and at work. The key recommendations of the study are the re-evaluation of inclusive policies within schools, consideration of the perspective of the students, better understanding, and monitoring of students with SEBD within schools, and more active involvement of all relevant stakeholders, especially families.

Workplace friendship is a unique type of relationship across all organizational levels between employees in the same or different departments and is an important factor in professional life. It has been suggested that school counselors need workplace friends, who are an important source of social support, to overcome the stress associated with the corporate environment and job conditions. Furthermore, workplace friendship fulfills several positive functions for both employees and institutions. Thus, the current study's first aim is to investigate psychological counselors' perceptions about workplace friendship based on various variables. The second aim is to determine the predictive role of job satisfaction and workplace well-being perceptions of psychological counselors in workplace friendship. The study sample included 339 school counselors, 232 female (68.4%) and 107 (31.6%) male and were in different provinces in Turkey. The study data were collected with the Workplace Friendship Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Workplace Well-Being Scale, and a Personal Demographics Form. T-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the study data. The findings revealed significant correlations between workplace well-being, job satisfaction, and workplace friendship. Workplace well-being and job satisfaction explained 27% of the variation in workplace friendship. The study findings contributed to determining the factors that affect workplace relations of psychological counselors.

Teachers are frontline actors in actualising educational innovations. In some contexts, teachers' professional agency is undervalued. This study investigated teachers' agency and its related workplace affordances in Hong Kong, which features a centralised-decentralisation education governance system, and a hierarchical work culture. The study was based on 21 semi-structured interviews with teachers, and employed a deductive thematic analysis. Agency enactment was categorised into (1) pedagogical agency within classrooms, and (2) relational agency in the professional community. The factors contributing to workplace affordances were grouped as pertaining to (1) the collegial community, (2) school leadership, (3) access to resources, and (4) availability of time, space, and job stability. Agency-supportive leadership and a favourable collegial environment significantly facilitated teachers' agentic actions. Teachers did not explicitly resist but implemented emotionally meaningless order in a 'work-to-rule' manner. The study contributes to professional agency research as applied to a particular political, regional, and socio-cultural context.

Violence and bullying against teachers in school is an acute worldwide problem that negatively affects teachers and students alike. However, although many previous studies have addressed the way students handle school violence, very little is known about violence against teachers and teachers' utilization of schools' support systems for contending with this violence. The main aim of the current study was to investigate students' violence against teachers and teachers' willingness to seek help, differentiating between novice and veteran teachers and their willingness to seek help from both school management and teacher colleagues. Based on a sample of 166 (86.7% female) teachers (Mean age = 44.49; SD = 9.92), the findings revealed that novice teachers were at greater risk than were veteran teachers, as they suffered more violence than did their veteran counterparts. However, although there was a generally negative association between the extent of the violence and the willingness to seek help, veteran teachers were less willing than novice teachers to seek help as the level of violence increases. Findings point to the negative psychosocial costs of help-seeking for teachers and the need to provide support for both novice and veteran teachers so that they can better handle violent events.

Meeting the needs of dual-career academic couples has become an important part of university efforts to foster family-friendly workplaces. Many universities have developed formal or informal approaches to addressing dual-career issues, but variation across institutions has made it difficult to detect wider patterns or probe their implications. In this paper, we analyze the dual-career policies and materials (848 documents total) of all R1 institutions in the United States. As with studies from roughly two decades ago, we find deficiencies in institutional support and transparency. However, given reduced state revenues for institutions of higher education and a rise in precarious employment arrangements over the same time period, conditions for academic couples are arguably worse today. In order for universities to address these concerns and contribute meaningfully to broader forms of inclusion, we argue that there is a need for sustained funding commitments and infrastructural support for dual-career programs.

Objective: Successful university wellness programs approach wellness holistically and regularly assess for improvements to program offerings. This case-study reports five lessons learned from a university wellness program evaluation that must be considered when developing wellness programming. Participants: Faculty, staff, and students at a public university health sciences center. Methods: A 23-question electronic survey with open-ended questions was administered to measure feedback on current and future wellness programming. Responses were analyzed with an open coding approach into five themes for program improvement to more holistically address wellness. Results: The five improvements to wellness programming identified by respondents were: wellness offering awareness, workplace culture and environment, racial representation, wellness programming policy enforcement, and creating an environmentally friendly campus. Conclusions: Themes identified in this case-study require additional attention by university wellness programs to ensure they are equitably accessible and comprehensive in their offerings.

The aim of this study is to present the findings of a qualitative study aiming at capturing key stakeholders' perceptions with regard to: (1) gender equality in academia and the workplace; (2) challenges, needs, and experiences in academia and workplace with regard to gender. This research captures the current situation of gender equality in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and provides a deep understanding of the needs, challenges and experiences both men and women encounter in academia vis-a-vis the industry. Forty-one interviews were conducted in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain. Data collected demonstrate a variety of challenges faced by all genders in the workplace and in academia, as well as the need for more concrete actions that will allow for a gender-balanced perspective to be heard in the STEM fields. Implications for practitioners, policymakers and researchers are also provided.

Boredom at work occurs in the context of low demands and resources and can have a host of negative outcomes for employees. However, the existing literature is lacunary concerning the mechanisms underlying the link between boredom and its negative outcomes. Based on the concept of tedium, this study examines the link between boredom at work and burnout, with a particular attention to the possibility of indirect effects. Analyses were conducted on a sample of 452 adults working in Switzerland. Our study's results showed that the link between boredom at work and exhaustion was mediated by cynicism, representing a disengagement from work. These findings are discussed based on the conservation of resources theory and several practical implications for organisations are highlighted.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between higher educational institution bullying policies and the subsequent cultural impact to determine the effectiveness of policy in ameliorating bullying within the university culture. Design/methodology/approach: This study consisted of two separate but related case studies at two universities in different countries, focussing on university staff. The field work gathered data about existing anti-bullying policy, the extent to which it was part of the organisational culture for staff, and the levels of staff bullying experienced or seen within the organisation. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. Findings: The study found that despite one university having significant policy and the other having very little policy, the knowledge of policy in both universities was and subsequent experience of bullying for staff were very similar. Research limitations/implications: The findings indicate that anti-bullying policy alone appears to have a limited impact on organisational behaviour. This suggests that the entrenched and historical master/servant relations of academia enable such practices to continue. Policy implementation is insufficient and training and development to generate more inclusive, people-focussed management cultures is necessary to ameliorate bullying behaviour. Practical implications: The paper draws on the experiences, critique and suggestions of the study participants to prepare a possible agenda for cultural change that human resource (HR) managers could develop in association with academic and professional managers within their institution. Social implications: The findings suggest that in any social setting or organisational structure where strong historical patterns of master/servant endure, the opportunity for bullying behaviours to grow and flourish is fertile and that policy statements alone may have little impact on curtailing such behaviour. Originality/value: This study makes two contributions to existing knowledge. First, it provides evidence that anti-bullying policy is alone unlikely to have an effective impact on instances of bullying within the culture. Second, the case study contrast displays that unacceptable levels of bullying exist in two very different institutions in two very different cultures. Whilst one country has a war-torn history and the other exists in splendid isolation, the same patterns persist, indicating that universities have structured cultural issues that are difficult to change.

Inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity (IDBE) are tenets discussed and developed in many universities and university libraries. Although there were studies on IDBE in libraries in general, the authors of this study were particularly interested in what Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) librarians were facing or not facing regarding IDBE. We were unable to locate any known study focusing on STEMM librarians' lived experiences regarding IDBE. Thus, our study aimed to explore this area further. A survey consisting of multiple-choice, Likert and short-answer questions was sent to STEMM librarians via specific listservs. In this study, we use a grounded theory approach and analyze three of the questions in the survey. This study would particularly interest librarians who would like to ascertain the climate of IDBE and the intersection with social justice in STEMM Librarianship. Also, we provide strategies to improve the climate and provide a more inclusive, diverse, equitable and belonging environment for STEMM Librarians. Our data analysis shows that STEMM librarians who identify as People of Color encounter negative behaviors, experiences, and attitudes at a much higher rate than STEMM librarians who are white. In addition, many STEMM librarians who identify as white report white privilege awareness.

The current study delves into the professional identity of elementary school rabbis within the national-religious education system in Israel, focusing on the perspectives of the rabbis themselves and examining how their professional identity impacts their work. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 rabbis who were selected using a convenience sampling method. The findings reveal that their professional identity is influenced by role ambiguity and conflicts within the school's work environment. Moreover, the study highlights the rabbis' direct engagement with students, parents, and staff in various educational activities, providing assistance and support. These findings have significant implications for religious education, offering insights to enhance the work of rabbis in this context.

This paper reports on a case study conducted in Mid-western Nepal, aiming to explore the potential impacts of precarious working conditions on part-time teachers' lives and identify ways to eliminate those working conditions. The data for the study were collected using semi-structured interviews from purposefully selected part-time teachers teaching in public higher secondary schools in the study area. The data analysis reveals that part-time teachers work in highly precarious working contexts that have negatively impacted their personal and professional lives. They think that they do not have financial stabilities, job securities and professional development opportunities. Additionally, the findings suggest that they can unsnare themselves from the precarious working conditions by lobbying the government to reform its teacher hiring policies, rejecting this kind of teaching and running their own academic institutions.

Practicums as part of teacher education are important for teacher students' professional development. Co-operative teachers support students' learning during practicums, but in the early childhood education (ECE) context the work community of the ECE center is also seen as an essential part of the practicum environment. This study investigated ECE teacher students' perceptions of the practicum work community's significance for their professional development. The data were collected by focus group interviews (N = 8) involving teacher students (N = 20) during their final practicum period. The data were analyzed by using qualitative content analysis. The results revealed that students perceived the work community as an environment for their learning and well-being, and as an enabler of students' participation and agency, as well as a form of support for mentoring. These factors were seen to influence the students' perception of an ECE teacher's profession and the versatility of students' opportunities to practice the skills expected of an ECE teacher. In addition, these factors were considered important for building confidence in professional competence and commitment to the ECE field. The results highlight the importance of improving practicum work communities' functioning, interaction atmosphere, and understanding on their significance in practicum in supporting student teachers' professional development.

Employees' innovative work behavior (IWB) is one of the key factors in improving organizational competitiveness. Previous studies show that challenge and hindrance stress can impact employees' IWB, but our understanding of the exact mechanism underlying the impact is still limited. The present study employed four scales (Challenge and Hindrance Stress Scale, Thriving at Work Scale, Chinese Emotional Exhaustion Scale, and Employee Innovative Behavior Scale) to collect questionnaire data from 789 employees in diverse organizations via an online platform. A two-path mediation model was constructed. The results show that: (a) challenge stress positively predicted thriving at work and IWB; (b) thriving at work played a partial mediation effect between challenge stress and IWB; (c) hindrance stress negatively predicted thriving at work and positively predicted emotional exhaustion; and (d) hindrance stress did not directly impact IWB while thriving at work and emotional exhaustion were main mediators in the relationship between hindrance stress and IWB. These findings suggest that employees should sensibly cope with different work stresses, while managers should plan work tasks scientifically and give employees adequate opportunities to learn and rest in order to keep them in a positive state to solve problems and work creatively.

Over the past five decades, a gender stereotype known as "Queen Bee Syndrome" has persisted, portraying some women who have risen to leadership roles in male-normed organizations as being self-preservationist and individualistic, even to the extent of intentionally undermining the professional advancement of other women. Use of this term can be traced to the competitive dynamics among female bees in a colony, with only one emerging and dominating as the "queen." Yet the researchers who coined this concept in the 1970s later expressed concern that their findings had been misunderstood; Queen Bee behaviors on the part of top-level women are an anomaly rather than the norm. In fact, women's working relationships with women have received only limited research attention, with the literature reflecting a spectrum of perceptions and experiences. This study examined the reported prevalence of both Queen Bee behaviors "and" supportive, generative relationships that enhance the prospects for women's career advancement. Whereas previous studies focused primarily on the corporate context, this study focused on the context of Christian higher education. A hermeneutic phenomenological approach was used to examine the relational experiences and expectations between and among 24 women participants (12 cabinet-level and 12 emerging leaders), drawing on data from two rounds of interviews. Overall, this study found patterns of strong and beneficial professional relationships among women, including support for one another's leadership aspirations and career advancement. Key findings are summarized in three major themes regarding the experiences and expectations of women within each group and in relation to the other: (a) the centrality of women's relationships with women; (b) women's relational experiences versus expectations; and (c) divergent understandings of the Queen Bee Syndrome. Recommendations for relevant programming and policies that can support the advancement of women at all organizational levels, along with suggestions for future related research, are provided.

The rapid pace of technological advancement relates to significant investment in talent development, emphasizing the workforce's upskilling and reskilling and the importance of continuous learning to meet these new challenges. It advocates for inclusive and comprehensive training programs that cater to diverse workforce needs. Addressing challenges while leveraging opportunities for social and environmental sustainability is critical for Industry 5.0's success. This transition aims to create a sustainable, inclusive industrial future where technological advancements are harmonized with human values and environmental considerations. This approach sets a new standard for industrial operations and career development, positioning Industry 5.0 as a landmark for modern, responsible, and sustainable industrial practices.

Purpose: Daily mood can be influenced by a range of experiences. Identifying everyday life experiences that make autistic adults happy and unhappy holds potential to foster positive mood and tackle mental health problems amongst this group. Methods: A total of 293 autistic adults between the ages of 18 to 35 years old (mean age of 26.51 years old (SD = 4.62); 43.3% female gender, 4.8% nonbinary) provided open-text responses regarding everyday sources of happiness and unhappiness. Using an iterative process of inductive coding, 14 happy themes and 22 unhappy themes of mood-changing life experiences were identified based on self-report qualitative data. Results: Common themes across the happy and unhappy domain involved social partners, social interactions, and engagement in recreational and employment activities, with additional distinct themes specific to happy or unhappy mood. Top themes identified in the happy domain emphasizes encouraging quality relationships and positive interactions with others and cultivating supportive work/societal environments to build a sense of achievement and value. Meanwhile, emotional tolls accompanied negative relationships and interactions, underscoring the necessity to provide autistic adults with conflict resolution and coping skills to increase feelings of happiness. Conclusion: Overall, the wide range of sources of happy and unhappy everyday experiences highlights the importance of considering personal preferences in engagement with others and activities in treatment.

Job instability is high among autistic adults, with employer-initiated terminations a common reason for job loss. The current study used qualitative methods to code reasons that autistic adults identified for their employer-initiated termination. From 315 autistic individuals ages 18-35 who completed an online survey, 93 (29.5%) reported having been terminated from a job. These individuals were asked about the reasons for their termination and responses were coded into thematic categories. Common reasons included work performance, social difficulties, attendance, and mental health challenges. Adults were more likely to attribute terminations to internal causes (related to the individual) than to external causes (environment-related). A good fit between workplace, individual preferences, skills, and abilities is likely key to promoting job continuity for autistic adults.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for young people in the labor market. Based on an evolutionary life history perspective, we tested how and when perceived scarcity of job opportunities during the pandemic related to job search outcomes. Using a sample of Master's student graduates (N = 1434; 40.2% female; mean age 25.6 years) from one Chinese university, we found that scarcity was related to higher anxiety, which then related to more haphazard job search strategies and, in turn, to fewer job offers and poorer person-job fit. Anxiety also related to more exploratory strategies and then to more offers and better fit. In addition, scarcity related to poorer fit through decreased focused strategies. Finally, the direct relationship between scarcity and anxiety, as well as the indirect relationships with job search outcomes, were amplified for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Findings support life history theory and have implications for career practice.

One aim of vocational education is educating students for occupations by fostering the development of students' capacities to become successful practitioners. During their education students are usually afforded work experience. When this is the case, students learn both at school and at the workplace. Learning at the workplace requires assessment, but this differs from assessment at school because of where (at the workplace), how (through participation) and what students learn (a process of belonging, becoming and being). At the workplace, students are usually assigned an educator who takes on the dual role of educator and assessor. This review takes a sociocultural perspective on learning at the workplace and from this perspective brings together what is already known about how workplace educators assess student performance through a qualitative systematic review. Our analysis aimed for narrative synthesis using iterative thematic analysis. The results depict workplace assessment as manifested in day-to-day work and shaped by relationships. Workplace educators are engaged in a continuous process of assessment-related interactions. They prefer using criteria that are embedded in the norms and values of their vocational community, rather than criteria prescribed by school. Workplace assessment requires negotiated criteria and truly collaborative assessment practices. These practices can be purposefully co-designed and require close communication between school and work. This review shows that assessment of workplace performance in vocational education can be conceptualised as a practice that is shaped by the specific workplace in which it is embedded. From this perspective assessment can be explicated and acknowledged, and as a consequence be further conceptualised and researched in both assessment research and vocational education research.

Elaborating the relations amongst workers' learning, innovations and well-being is essential for achieving two important and dual goals in contemporary work life. The first is individuals' ongoing learning that underpins their employability and can respond to new challenges and emerging occupational and workplace requirements. The second comprises workers' remaking and transforming workplace practices, processes and outcomes (i.e., workplace innovations) in response to these challenges, and through them sustaining workplaces' productivity and viability. These dual processes of individuals' learning and remaking of practice co-occur and warrant understanding and supporting and promoting to exercise them optimally in achieving these dual goals. We aim to illuminate and elaborate these dual learning and innovations from the results of two studies of small to medium size Singaporean enterprises using interviews and observations. Framed by considerations from cultural psychology, work practice and well-being theorising, the dualities of workplace affordances (i.e., opportunities provided by workplaces) and individual engagement (i.e., how workers elect to engage and learn from these opportunities) are used to propose how workers' worklife learning and workplace innovations can arise reciprocally. In conclusion, sets of curriculum and pedagogic practices that can be exercised in work settings are advanced.

In Australia, doctors undertaking advanced training to become general practitioners work under the supervision of clinical educators. Primarily clinicians, these clinical educators participate in one day of teaching-related professional development annually, generally a workshop. Shortcomings with this form of professional development led to the development of a quality improvement focused intervention that is facilitated in the workplace and based on the clinical educator's self-identified concerns. Drawing on teacher action research and feasibility study methodologies we explored this novel form of professional development by asking 'Can this intervention work?' We employed an embedded multiple case study design, trialling the intervention in four settings. The intervention's constituent activities were acceptable to participants; including a preparedness to experience discomfort for the purpose of improving their teaching practices. They perceived the intervention as convenient and the workload manageable. Participants were motivated to experiment with new teaching behaviours, but measuring outcomes was challenging. Medical educators facilitating the intervention perceived their tasks as cognitively 'hard work'. The findings provide support for this workplace-based intervention as a feasible form of professional development, which should be implemented on a larger scale and evaluated for impact.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationships between affective commitment (AC), innovative work behavior (IWB) and organizational socialization strategies (training, coworker support, understanding and future prospects) to ensure the viability and prosperity of businesses in Iraq. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology includes demographic analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings: An analysis of survey data based on a random sample of participating employees shows that training, understanding and future prospects all significantly and positively affect employee AC. Coworker support does not significantly affect AC. Employees' AC to their companies significantly positively affects their IWB. Employees' AC to their companies significantly mediates the relationships between training, understanding, future prospects and IWB. Company practices regarding training, understanding, coworker support and future prospects do not affect employees' IWB. Research limitations/implications: The authors conducted the study in Sulaymaniyah. The results may not apply to Iraq and other nations. Researchers from various industries and countries can evaluate the model. The research ignores company age, size and fit between individuals and organizations. Originality/value: The study closes a research gap in organizational behavior by exploring the association between managerial socialization strategies, AC and creative work behavior in Iraq.

Latinx faculty play a significant role in supporting the success of Latinx students. However, a culture of niceness at Historically White Serving Institutions with Hispanic-Serving Institution designations could reproduce inequities for Latinx faculty and thus contribute to their departure. We created a composite counterstory from interview data with Latinx faculty to illustrate how Latinx faculty created validating and supporting environments to critique and collectively transform the culture of niceness.
